The Bike-Seal /Auto-Seal team are frequently asked about corrosion. It’s a question that is difficult to answer directly. “I’ve used products before, only to find it’s cost me a new wheel”………is all too often heard.
Emergency “get you home” products as others are, rely on chemical based reactions. Once inserted, chemicals will start to break down the structure of both tyre and rim. This is why in-service distance and speed restrictions apply, and tyre repair is often not an option, instead expensive replacement with a new tyre is favoured.
NOT with Bike-Seal/Auto-Seal
Remember, the liquid medium is water-based, containing a neutralising agent maintaining PH neutrality, and Propylene Glycol as used in the Food Industry. The fibres, some of which are second generation Aramid and man-made, along with rubber filler particles, are held in suspension within the liquid. As there is no ‘chemical reaction’, there can be no issues with corrosion. This also explains why there is no shelf life, hence our product will not break down, separate or solidify.
Recently I took the tyre off the demonstration rim used for the last year in demonstrations, with circa 4000 punctures, to show the inside of the tyre and any effects on the alloy Range Rover wheel. Many of you have seen my demonstrations, but this is worth viewing…….
LEFT – Harley Davidson Rim
Effects of ‘chemical-based product’ clearly showing pitting and damage
RIGHT – No corrosion!!
Clean Range Rover Alloy Rim – using Bike-Seal/Auto-Seal
SECTIONS OF TYRE clearly showing the fibres plugging from the inside, using the rotational forces generated through use and greater internal pressure.
Again, a clean corrosion free rim can clearly be seen!!!
